ReWater MENA Kicks off a series of training workshops on the Safe Use of Wastewater in Jordan
ReWater MENA project in partnership with Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA), organized a series of training workshops on the Safe Use of Wastewater in Jordan. The workshop aims to build and strengthen the capacities of the stakeholders and participants in the field of safe use of wastewater through conducting a series of training courses in Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon under the topics of reuse technologies, economic models for reuse projects, reuse safety plans, reuse governance, public acceptance and gender integration in reuse interventions. In addition to raising awareness and introducing the reuse concept in the region as well.
The project aims to expand the safe reuse of the treated waste water in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by addressing barriers to reuse and identifying validated reuse models through building the capacities of 400 trainees in the three countries, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon. The workshop started on March 14, 2021 for six days at Mariott Amman Hotel. The workshop was attended by different representatives from governmental entities, NGOs and other target audiences in Jordan as well.
The Secretary-General of ACWUA, Eng. Khaldon Khashman highlighted the importance of the fields covered by the training course for the first time in the Arab region. Whereas, the Arab region lacks reuse safety plans that deal with the water coming out from homes, to the water collection and purification system, afterthat its safe use and its impact on users. As for the participants, the training course included various target groups, from decision-makers to the beneficiaries

ReWater MENA project is a regional project funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), and led by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). The project is running in three countries in the MENA region; Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon, in partnership with many entities and organizations at the local, regional and international levels including: the Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA), the Arab Water Council (AWC), the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, The Royal Scientific Society of Jordan (RSS), the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI), and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) in Egypt.
