In 2018, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and its partners launched a four-year project aimed at significantly expanding safe water reuse in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with specific activities in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.

The project, which was implemented between 2018 and 2022, engaged stakeholders through inclusive and participatory processes to identify and address key barriers to water reuse. It promoted safe reuse practices that contribute to improved food safety, better health outcomes and enhanced livelihoods across the region.
