Water reuse in numbers

In March 2025, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and its partners embarked on another regional project framed under the Near East and North Africa Water Scarcity Initiative (WSI), coordinated by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The project, implemented between March 2025 and December 2026, builds on the evidence, knowledge and networks developed through the ReWaterMENA Project (2018–2022) to address severe water scarcity and deteriorating water quality in the Near East and North Africa (NENA) region — the most water stressed region in the world.

The project has a regional scope covering all 22 League of Arab States (Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, State of Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen), with specific activities in Egypt, Jordan and Morocco.
