Overview
In 2023, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) was awarded a grant by Google.org to develop a decision-support tool powered by artificial intelligence (AI), earth observation, and data analytics. The tool will generate high-resolution data on wastewater availability and sectoral water demand, evaluate reuse potential and help authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Egypt enhance water security through water reuse and reduce dependence on non-renewable sources.
Implemented between 2023 and 2025, the project aims to support policymakers, government agencies, and water users in applying the tool to assess the potential for recovering and reusing lost wastewater across various sectors.
