“I believe that wastewater treatment plants are in fact water resource recovery facilities. In Jordan, we no longer consider wastewater as a waste. Treated wastewater shares up to 20% of water budget in Jordan. Yet, wastewater reuse is not a straightforward process but it rather requires looking at all dimensions i.e. social, economic and environmental aspects. In this regard, the RSS and IWMI researchers are now working together to develop safe wastewater reuse models in Jordan Valley as part of ReWater MENA project. The collaboration with IWMI also includes tracking pharmaceutical compounds and resistant genes in wastewater cycle in Jordan and studying its long terms effects”.
